It is so much easier to fight against a straw man than to have to find solutions to real problems. If you frighten the public enough they will support anything that promises protection. The really frightening thing is how much this sounds like what happened in Germany in the 1930's.
Agreed. If a party has to rely on fear to motivate people it is philosophically bankrupt. Unfortunately, fear works. Playing to folks' deepest, darkest anxieties is often a winning strategy. Is that all Kobach's got???
